Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician to join the WI ACL Laboratories - AMC St Lukes team. The role focuses on performing and evaluating laboratory tests, monitoring workflow, and ensuring timely results in a high‑acuity environment.

Training and competency validation will be provided, with care for transfusion procedures and quality control. The position is 20 hours per week, primarily second and third shifts (approx.

Qualifications

• MLT certification required within 1 year (ASCP BOC) or AMT certification within 1 year
• Associate's degree in clinical lab technician or related field is required
• No experience required

Responsibilities

• Perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests per established protocols.
• Monitor workflow and adjust to complete work within timeframe.
• Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness.
• Follow prescribed policy in reporting and notification of test results.
• Perform and document calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
• Perform and document quality control; evaluate quality control results and take corrective action when indicated.
• Recognize indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and notify supervisor.
• Perform internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
• Collect specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol.
• Ascertain specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Provide technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
• Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
• Ensure compliance with accrediting agency standards, supporting CAP Regulatory requirements in an acute setting.
• Perform specialty testing in transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Support disease-specific accreditations by meeting turn-around time goals.
• Provide timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments such as the ED, ICU and OR during high acuity events.
