Job description

Coastal Regional Center Instructor Position

Coastal Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Summerville, SC, serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This position serves as the main instructor for multiple In-Service Training/Center Wide Orientation courses and also acts as a substitute instructor when necessary. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating the In-Service Training curriculum, assisting with presentation methods, and supporting Volunteer Services as needed.

Responsibilities
  1. Teach and train courses provided in In-Service Training, including certified courses such as Therapeutic Options, Defensive Driving, Positive Behavior Support, and CPR/AED/SFA. These courses are offered during new hire orientation and for center-wide staff training, with various requirements for annual and other training sessions. The instructor will also distribute, train, and document all annual training sessions for staff.
  2. Maintain electronic documentation of training records. Utilize the Training Management System (TMS) in Therap for scheduling courses, publishing content, and uploading documentation.
  3. Perform administrative duties related to Staff Development and Volunteer Services, including correspondence, Therap reporting, and scheduling courses for recertification.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.
  • Preferred 1-3 years of instruction/training experience, especially hands-on or classroom experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of training principles and practices, including conducting formal and informal sessions and developing visual aids.
  • Ability to facilitate conferences, lead discussions, instruct groups, and stimulate learning.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and analyze training needs to recommend solutions.
