Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Traffic Signal Technician would be to work on the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and digital controlled traffic signal and lighting systems. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain traffic signal control devices, systems, and auxiliary equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment in signal installation such as dump trucks, air compressors, jackhammers, trenchers, backhoes, bucket trucks, pole trucks, and forklifts.
- Interpret plans and specifications to ensure correct installation and maintenance of traffic signal systems.
- Wire, drill, install, assemble, and repair signal poles, arms, heads, push buttons, luminaries, and wire loops.
- Install traffic pole and controller cabinets on concrete bases and change controllers, conflict monitors, load switches, or relays as needed.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicle.
- Transport necessary equipment and supplies to and from the work site.
- Perform related duties as assigned including cross training.
Requirements:
- Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Must have a positive and cooperative attitude and excellent attendance.
- Must be able to get along with fellow workers, other tradesmen on the job site, inspectors, customers, and the public.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must properly use safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all types of hand tools.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in outdoor environments in all/extreme weather conditions.
- This position requires physical activity including extended periods of standing and walking, frequent sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and climbing.
- Requires the ability to frequently lift and/or carry materials and/or supplies and other materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting and/or carrying of materials and/or supplies weighing up to 100 lbs.
