Job description

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Traffic Signal Technician is to work on the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and digital controlled traffic signal and lighting systems. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining traffic signal control devices, systems, and auxiliary equipment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate equipment used in signal installation such as dump trucks, air compressors, jackhammers, trenchers, backhoes, bucket trucks, pole trucks, and forklifts.
  2. Interpret plans and specifications to ensure correct installation and maintenance of traffic signal systems.
  3. Wire, drill, install, assemble, and repair signal poles, arms, heads, push buttons, luminaires, and wire loops.
  4. Install traffic poles and controller cabinets on concrete bases and change controllers, conflict monitors, load switches, or relays as needed.
  5. Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicle.
  6. Transport necessary equipment and supplies to and from the work site.
  7. Perform related duties as assigned, including cross-training.
Requirements:
  1. Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  2. Must have a positive and cooperative attitude and excellent attendance.
  3. Must be able to get along with coworkers, other tradesmen on the job site, inspectors, customers, and the public.
  4. Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
  5. Must properly use safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
  6. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all types of hand tools.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics include:

  • Work primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and climbing.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 lbs, with occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
