Job summary

Northrop Grumman's Propulsion Systems in Clearfield, UT, seeks a Tooling Engineering Design Manager to lead a 10–12 person tooling design/planning team. You will ensure safety, quality, functionality, and manufacturability while meeting program cost and schedule requirements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 9 years in engineering, plus 5+ years supervising. Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills are essential, with Lean/CM/PLM familiarity

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in a technical engineering environment or 9 years total with no degree
• 5+ years’ experience in a technical engineering environment, 1–3 years supervisory/managerial experience
• Strong communication and technical presentation skills
• Experience in designing tooling for manufacturability; knowledge of configuration management and PLM software

Responsibilities

• Drive technical excellence by ensuring department meets technical standards.
• Set role and performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and performance appraisals.
• Develop and mentor team members.
• Provide overall leadership and direction to the department (coaching, resolving conflict, reviewing performance, initiating corrective actions).
• Champion company values, especially safety.
• Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations.
• Provide input for cost estimates for technical proposals.
• Oversee team's project labor budgets and schedule for assigned efforts.
• Resource planning and labor forecasting.
• Manage resources to support program schedules, balancing needs, priorities and cost.
