Job summary

Hapag-Lloyd is seeking a Senior Allocation Management Specialist to support export trades from North America. You will optimize allocation and capacity, manage vessel utilization, and align voyage planning with pricing and steering.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, shipping or logistics experience, strong data analysis and stakeholder collaboration, and fluency in English; willingness to work outside standard hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for Maritime Academy, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or related field.
  • Operational experience in shipping, logistics, or transportation industry required.
  • Sales Steering experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Hapag-Lloyd's global product portfolio, network, and partner offerings.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Manager of TM Uptake Management on allocation and capacity optimization for export trades from North America.
  • Develop allocation management initiatives and processes aligned with the multi-year strategy.
  • Assess business performance, analyze root causes, and support development of processes and tools for allocation and capacity management.
  • Manage allocation and capacity for designated ship systems and trades.
  • Create voyage and customer allocations aligned with TM Pricing & Steering.
  • Coordinate ad hoc schedule adjustments and optimizations with Voyage Control, Fleet Support Center, and Regions.
  • Liaise with ship planners regarding space-related topics and operational restrictions.
  • Cooperate with TM Pricing & Steering on booking development and market conditions.
  • Align with Area Commercial Steering and predict voyage utilization and booking developments.
  • Handle special cargo approval applications, shipment acceptance, and waitlists.
  • Prioritize cargo during overbooking based on commercial rules, operational considerations, and costs.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and discussions.

Job description

  • Support the Senior Manager of TM Uptake Management on allocation and capacity optimization for export trades from North America
  • Develop allocation management initiatives and processes aligned with the multi-year strategy
  • Assess business performance, analyze root causes, and support development of processes and tools for allocation and capacity management
  • Manage allocation and capacity for designated ship systems and trades
  • Create voyage and customer allocations aligned with TM Pricing & Steering
  • Manage and optimize vessel utilization within Region RNA across trades and Geo Forms for full and MT containers
  • Liaise with ship planners regarding space-related topics and operational restrictions
  • Liaise with QSCs on vessel balancing and PTO topics
  • Cooperate with TM Pricing & Steering on booking development and market conditions
  • Align with Area Commercial Steering
  • Predict voyage utilization and booking developments
  • Handle special cargo approval applications, shipment acceptance, and waitlists
  • Prioritize cargo during overbooking based on commercial rules, operational considerations, and costs
  • Coordinate ad hoc schedule adjustments and optimizations with Voyage Control, Fleet Support Center, and Regions
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and discussions
  • Back up other team members as needed
  • Report to the Manager/Senior Manager Allocation Management
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for degrees from a Maritime Academy, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field
  • Previous operational experience within the shipping, logistics, or transportation industry required
  • Sales Steering experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of Hapag-Lloyd's global product portfolio, network, and partner offerings
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Hapag-Lloyd applications, including FIS and QlikView
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed business recommendations
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and drive results independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholder groups
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to develop, implement, and improve processes, concepts, and organizational structures
