Job summary

First American is seeking a title examiner to examine public records and assess title chains primarily for residential properties. Remote work is available; candidates with 2+ years of multistate experience and strong analytical skills are preferred.

You will abstract records, identify issues, prepare title commitments, and test related tools, collaborating with underwriting and technology teams. A high school diploma and state licenses are commonly required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of multistate title examination experience preferred.
• State license(s) if required.
• Detail and quality orientation essential.
• Analytical review and research skills needed.
• Strong problem-solving and communication abilities required.
• Customer service orientation and familiarity with MS tools.
• Proficient with company operating systems; knowledge of legal terms helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform title examinations and review chains of title for residential orders.
• Abstract and analyze records (mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics).
• Resolve title issues due to missing or conflicting information.
• Prepare initial title commitment documentation per guidelines.
• Test title-related tools and platforms across workflows.
• Provide feedback to technology teams with examples and context.
• Help define test scenarios and review system reports for accuracy.
• Provide underwriting interpretation within guidelines as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
