Job summary

First American’s Agency Division seeks an experienced Title Examiner to examine residential title orders, abstract records, and resolve issues. You will prepare title commitments, test and provide feedback on title tools, and collaborate with technology teams to improve examination workflows.

The role emphasizes accuracy, analytical skills, and strong communication. A multistate background and state licensure support success in a fast-paced, customer-service oriented environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of multistate title examination experience.
• State license(s) if required.
• Detail / quality orientation.

• Standard MS skill set.
• Proficient with company operating systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform title examinations and review chains of title for a range of title orders, primarily residential.
• Abstract and analyze records—including mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books—to determine ownership, identify legal restrictions, verify legal descriptions, and assess record completeness.
• Resolve title issues involving missing, incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory information.
• Prepare initial title commitment documentation using established procedures and guidelines.
• Test title-related tools, platforms, and applications across a variety of workflows and scenarios.
• Compare system results with examiner judgment and source records; identify errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve results.
• Provide specific, actionable feedback to technology development teams, including examples of expected results and relevant examining context.
• Help define and refine test scenarios and workflows based on real-world title examination practices.
• Review reports and other system-generated documentation for accuracy and usability.
• Provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned
