Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Aerospace engineer to own thermo‑mechanical modeling of large rotating hardware. You will build 2D axisymmetric models, integrate with thermal-fluid data, and predict temperatures, margins, and clearances across transients.

Collaboration across design, aero, rotordynamics, and test is essential. The role emphasizes ANSYS, 2D axisymmetric modeling, and translating 3D geometry into efficient 2D representations, with a focus on reliability and life

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years in mechanical/structural/thermal analysis of high-performance hardware.
• Hands-on experience with transient thermal and nonlinear structural FEA in ANSYS.
• Experience building whole-engine 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models.
• Ability to derive convective boundary conditions from correlations.
• Cross-disciplinary teamwork and measurable ownership.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and own 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment.
• Translate 3D geometry into efficient 2D representations capturing key features.
• Implement transient profiles and assess effects on clearances.
• Collaborate with secondary-flow analysts for thermal-fluid models.
• Apply boundary conditions to predict rotor/casing margins and clearances.
• Perform structural margin and life assessment using 2D/3D analyses.
• Contribute to design requirements and subsystem reviews.
