Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Propulsion Engineer to own 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment, predict temperatures, clearances, and margins across transients. You will collaborate with design, aero/CFD, secondary flow, and test teams to mature models through the design lifecycle and support mission objectives.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and 6+ years of ANSYS experience with transient thermal and nonlinear structural analysis; relocation

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical / structural / thermal analysis of machinery systems or comparable high-performance hardware

  • Hands-on experience with transient thermal and nonlinear structural finite element analysis in ANSYS
  • ,
  • Experience creating whole-engine/2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment
  • ,
  • Ability to derive convective heat-transfer boundary conditions from correlations
  • ,
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration experience

  • Track record of ownership and delivering results

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and own 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment
  • Translate 3D geometry into efficient 2D axisymmetric representations
  • Implement transient operating profiles and assess effects on clearances
  • Collaborate with secondary-flow analysts to develop conjugate models
  • Apply boundary conditions to predict rotor and casing margins across transients
  • Perform structural margin, bolted-joint, and interference-fit assessments
  • Synthesize results into operability guidance for system-level tradeoffs
  • Collaborate across design, aero/CFD, materials, test to resolve issues
  • Develop analysis-driven design requirements and documentation
