Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced Thermal Engineer to lead thermal design and analysis across rotating and static engine components. You will optimize cooling, lubrication, and heat transfer, using ANSYS Workbench or Thermal Desktop and FEA tools to validate designs before production and operation.

The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, scripting skills, and the ability to drive engineering documentation, testing plans, and automation to improve analysis workflows.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Workbench or Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with flow network modeling software (Flownex, Sinda/Fluint).
  • Knowledge of lumped capacitance, 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D thermal modeling.
  • Understanding heat transfer, fluid flow and thermodynamics principles.
  • Familiarity with scripting (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN).

Responsibilities

  • Lead thermal design and analysis of rotating and static components from concept to service.
  • Perform optimization to define cooling and lubrication requirements.
  • Use hand calculations and FEA to evaluate thermal state and heat rejection.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to optimize performance and durability.
  • Document analyses to support engineering drawings and release.
  • Create automation tools for model creation, balance checks, and reports.
  • Support test plans and gather data to verify design requirements.
