Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL, invites engineers to own 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment, predicting temperatures, deflections, and clearances across start‑up, run, and cooldown. You will translate complex 3D geometry into efficient 2D representations and work with turbomachinery, materials, and test teams to refine predictions.

The role requires hands-on ANSYS experience, strong collaboration, and a track record of delivering robust hardware analyses for

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical/structural/thermal analysis of machinery systems or comparable high‑performance hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with transient thermal and nonlinear structural finite element analysis in ANSYS (contact, plasticity, thermal-structural coupling).
  • Demonstrated experience with creating and building whole-engine / 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical models of rotating equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and own 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical whole‑engine models, predicting temperatures, deflections, and clearances across the operating envelope.
  • Translate 3D geometry into efficient 2D axisymmetric representations to capture thermal and structural features.
  • Implement transient operating profiles and assess their effect on clearance and margins.
  • Collaborate with secondary-flow analysts to develop conjugate thermal-fluid models and calibrate against test data.
  • Apply thermal boundary conditions to predict rotor stack and clearance budgets across transients.
  • Perform structural margin and interference-fit assessments using 2D/3D ANSYS and feed results to life assessment.
