Job summary

Blue Origin, based in Seattle, WA, seeks a Propulsion Engineer to own thermo-mechanical modeling of large-scale rotating hardware. You will build 2D axisymmetric whole-engine models, couple with flow networks, and predict temperatures, clearances, and margins across transients.

You will work with integration and test teams for model validation. The role requires hands-on ANSYS, scripting in Python/MATLAB, and experience with rotating equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 6+ years of mechanical/structural/thermal analysis experience.
  • Hands-on ANSYS transient thermal and nonlinear analysis.
  • Experience building whole-engine 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models.
  • Ability to derive convective heat-transfer boundary conditions from correlations.
  • Cross-disciplinary teamwork background.
  • Proven ownership and results delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own 2D axisymmetric thermo-mechanical models of rotating equipment.
  • Translate 3D geometry into efficient 2D axisymmetric representations.
  • Implement transient thermal profiles and assess effects on clearances.
  • Collaborate with secondary-flow analysts for integrated models.
  • Apply boundary conditions to predict rotor casing behavior across transients.
  • Perform margin and life assessments using ANSYS.
  • Document results and support program reviews.
