Job summary

Blue Origin Engines seeks a highly skilled engineer to own 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical models of rotating equipment and to predict rotor/casing clearances across transients. You will integrate with secondary-flow, rotordynamics, and test groups to mature models through design lifecycle.

The role emphasizes campaigns from SRR to CDR, with strong collaboration across disciplines and a focus on reliability, life, and mission performance. Relocation and travel are involved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 6 years of mechanical/structural/thermal analysis on high‑performance machinery.
  • Hands-on transient thermal and nonlinear structural FEA in ANSYS.
  • Experience building whole‑engine 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical models.
  • Ability to derive convective heat‑transfer boundary conditions from correlations.
  • Experience in cross‑disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of ownership and delivering results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical models of rotating equipment.
  • Translate 3D geometry into 2D axisymmetric representations.
  • Implement transient profiles and assess effects on clearances.
  • Work with secondary-flow analysts to develop convection models.
  • Apply thermal boundary conditions to structural models to predict gaps and margins.
  • Perform structural margin and life assessment.
  • Support system-level operability guidance and ConOps trades.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to resolve hardware issues.
  • Develop and maintain analysis-driven design requirements and documentation.
