Job summary

Astranis is seeking a Thermal Engineer Associate for Summer 2027 to work with our engineering team on satellite hardware and thermal systems. This documented internship offers hands-on design and testing experience across components used on space missions, with potential for future roles.

You will perform thermal analyses from simplified to detailed, design and test heaters, heat pipes, interface materials, and coatings, and help implement robust assembly processes for flight hardware.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test hardware.
• US Citizenship or Green Card.
• Willingness to apply even if not all criteria are met.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, build, and test satellite hardware and/or software with the engineering team.
• Support design trades balancing performance margins, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule.
• Perform thermal analysis to varying degrees of fidelity on hardware such as propulsion components, batteries, high powered electronics, RF, mechanisms, PCBs.
• Design, evaluate, procure and test thermal solutions (heaters, heat pipes, interfaces, coatings).
• Develop processes for integration and assembly ensuring thermal design intent; collaborate with TT/A teams.
• Plan and run thermal vacuum testing and verification at component and spacecraft levels.
