Job summary

Astranis is seeking a Thermal Intern for Winter 2027 in Northern California. You will work with the engineering team to design, test, and validate satellite hardware and thermal systems, contributing to space-grade hardware development.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, fast-paced problem solving, and collaboration across disciplines. You should be pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical, aerospace, or related technical degree.
• Passion for hardware development in a fast-paced environment with hands-on design.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
• US Citizenship or Green Card.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineering to design, evaluate, build, and test satellite hardware and/or software.
• Support design trades balancing performance margins, resources, risk, cost, and schedule.
• Perform thermal analysis from simple to detailed on hardware such as propulsion components, batteries, electronics, PCBs.
• Design, evaluate, procure and test thermal solutions like heaters, heat pipes, interface materials, coatings.
• Develop processes for integration and assembly ensuring thermal design intent; collaborate with TAS.
• Plan and run thermal vacuum testing and verification at component and spacecraft level.
