Job summary

Adelbrook in Berlin, CT is seeking a Residential Support Counselor to provide direct care and guidance to children, adolescents, and young adults with ASD/IDD. You will implement behavior management, support daily living skills, and coordinate activities in residential and community settings.

The role requires flexibility in schedules, ability to work with a diverse team, and ongoing PMT/PMT-certified crisis intervention training.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred Associate or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or related field.
• At least 1 year experience with individuals with emotional/behavioral/developmental disabilities in residential/community settings.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with residents, staff and families.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and support residents’ behavior using trauma-informed care and positive reinforcement.
• Implement individualized behavioral support plans to promote skill-building and adaptation of positive behaviors.
• Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and crisis intervention as needed.
• Assist with crisis intervention using PMT techniques when required.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene and meals.
• Organize structured activities to promote socialization and personal growth.
