Job summary

Lunar Outpost Inc. in Golden, Colorado, is seeking a Test Engineer Intern to support testing and validation of lunar rovers and spaceflight hardware.

You will write test plans, fabricate test setups, and execute tests in TVAC chambers and lunar simulant facilities, collaborating with full-time engineers on meaningful projects. The internship offers an end-to-end experience in autonomous robotic development, with on-site schedule M/T/Th/F 9:00–5:00 and optional remote work on Wednesdays.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience drafting test plans, technical reports and procedures.
• Hands-on hardware experience: machining, wiring and using hand tools.
• Knowledge of space mission testing concepts: qualification vs. acceptance testing.
• Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and collaborative working style.

Job description

As a Test Engineer Intern at Lunar Outpost, you will support the testing and validation of lunar rovers and other spaceflight hardware. Test Engineering Interns will be involved in multiple aspects of the testing lifecycle, from writing test plans and documentation to fabricating test setups and executing tests in specialized environments, such as Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) chambers and lunar simulant facilities. All interns will work directly alongside full-time engineers on real, engaging, and impactful projects, providing tangible value to Lunar Outpost products. This internship offers a truly end-to-end experience that promotes collaboration at every stage of autonomous robotic development.

Working Conditions / Schedule: This position is required to be onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Where applicable, employees may work remotely on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Test Documentation: Write detailed test procedures, test plans, and reports, ensuring compliance with rigorous aerospace industry standards
• Test Hardware Design and Fabrication: Design, build, and assemble test fixtures and custom equipment required for component and full-system tests
• Component and Full System Testing: Assist in executing comprehensive tests on subsystems and full robotic systems, including integration tests for spaceflight hardware
• Environmental Testing: Run tests in Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) chambers, simulant testbeds, and other environmental setups to simulate space conditions
• Data Analysis: Analyze test data to ensure hardware meets the mission requirements and provide feedback for iterative design improvements
• Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to ensure test objectives are met

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience drafting technical documents such as test plans, technical reports, and procedures
• Hands-on experience working with hardware, including machining, electrical wiring, and using hand tools in a shop environment
• Fundamental knowledge of space mission testing concepts, including qualification vs. acceptance testing and requirements verification
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work methodically in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.

Early-June (June 7, 2027) to late August (August 20, 2027). Start and end dates are flexible with the intern's school schedule. This is an in-person internship; Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Golden, Colorado.
