Job summary

CopperPoint Insurance Companies is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Production Underwriter to manage an assigned agency territory and underwriting book, focusing on profitable growth, renewal retention, and strong customer service.

This role leads new business development, risk selection, pricing discipline, and agency relationship management within delegated authority, partnering with leadership and agency partners to execute territory strategies and achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant work experience may be considered.
• 3–5 years of commercial P&C underwriting, with workers' comp experience preferred.
• Experience managing agency relationships and pipelines.
• Professional designation such as CPCU/ARM/AU/CIC preferred but not required.
• Strong technical knowledge of workers' compensation underwriting.
• Ability to develop producer relationships and execute growth strategies.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Understanding of risk assessment, pricing, and profitability analysis.

Responsibilities

• Owns an assigned agency territory and book of business with profitable new business production, renewal retention, risk selection, pricing discipline, and agency engagement outcomes.
• Evaluates workers' compensation submissions by analyzing class codes, exposures, payroll, loss runs, and experience modification factors.
• Makes underwriting decisions within assigned authority and escalates risks as needed.
• Prices new and renewal business balancing growth and profitability.
• Develops and manages agency partnership plans with production goals and profitability opportunities.
• Conducts regular agency visits and producer meetings to discuss appetite and strategy.
• Identifies opportunities to expand profitable workers' compensation production through distribution channels.
• Presents proposals to agency personnel, explaining underwriting decisions and pricing rationale.
• Maintains knowledge of the territory, competitor activity, and regulatory considerations.
• Partners with leadership, claims, loss control, and operations to support account performance.
• Delivers high-quality service to stakeholders and maintains proper documentation.
