Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate passenger buses and shuttles on assigned routes.
• Inspect buses and report malfunctions; maintain cleanliness.
• Fuel daily and inspect exterior condition.
• Maintain radio/phone contact with Transportation Office and report delays.
• Keep mileage and passenger logs for each task.
• Assist and direct disabled individuals on/off vehicles.
• Provide route feedback and improvement suggestions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you'll do and what you'll bring

Position Function: Operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operate passenger buses, shuttles, vans and paratransit units on various routes as established by the Transportation Office.
2. Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
3. Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage.
4. Maintain contact with Transportation Office when necessary via radio and/or telephone; inform office of changes in location, delays, traffic problems, emergencies, etc.
5. Maintain accurate records of mileage and number of passengers; complete various trip sheets and logs for each assigned task.
6. Assist and direct disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed.
7. Report any problems with routes and make recommendations for changes when appropriate.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent ( GED )
2. At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
3. Must demonstrate ability to drive bus (on-site driving test).
4. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with an endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
5. Must possess a good driving record; verification through Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
6. Must pass a post offer/pre-employment mandatory drug and alcohol test.
7. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.

Preferred Qualifications

• Over-the-road ( OTR ) bus or truck driving experience.
