Job summary

Bridgewater State University is seeking a Transit Bus Driver to safely operate university-owned buses on campus routes and BSU-related shuttles. You will provide courteous service to students and community members and may transport clubs and athletic groups to university functions.

You must be an undergraduate BSU student enrolled in at least 6 credits and hold a Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake and passenger endorsements.

Qualifications

• Must hold CDL with airbrake and passenger endorsement.
• Must comply with pre-employment physicals and drug/alcohol screening.
• Safety-conscious and attentive to traffic, road, and weather.
• Excellent driving skills and reputable driving record.
• Must attend all required training and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Operate university-owned buses safely on campus routes and BSU-related shuttles.
• Provide courteous passenger service to students and community members.
• Transport clubs, organizations, athletes to university functions.
• Perform pre-trip inspections and report mechanical issues.
• Assist with loading/unloading and routine bus cleaning.

Position Information

Title Transit Bus Driver

Position Description

A BSU Transit Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of University-leased/ BAT -owned buses and BSU -owned buses to provide efficient, reliable, and courteous passenger service transporting students and community members to their destination(s) on campus routes and/or BAT Centre route, as well as taking routine care of the buses.

BSU Transit Drivers will also have the opportunity to transport clubs, organizations, athletes and/or other BSU affiliated groups to University-related functions. Buses used will be a Class B/coach category, mini-buses/vans are a Class D category.

You must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits.

REQUIREMENTS

• Individual must hold a Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) with airbrake and passenger endorsement.
• Individual must be comply with BSU Transit rules and regulations in regards to pre-employment physicals and pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening/testing.
• Individual must be safety conscience and attentive to surrounding environments including traffic, road conditions, and weather conditions.
• Individual must have excellent driving skills and a reputable driving record.
• Individual must be willing to attend all training and mandatory meetings required by the University/ BSU Transit.

Preferred Qualifications

• Individual must be currently CPR certified or capable of receiving certification.
• Individual must be familiar with all policies, and routes/vehicles operated by the BSU Transit Service
• Individual must be familiar with general first aid procedures.

Physical Demands

• Completion of a pre-trip inspection checklist of the bus to be driven; report defect/mechanical problems to appropriate personnel.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of bus interior with shift end
• Assist with loading and unloading of buses and other duties as assigned.
