Job summary

Ball State University invites applications for Temporary Substitute Bus Drivers to operate university buses, transporting students and staff on shuttle runs and dispatched routes. Work hours vary with no set schedule; up to 0–40+ hours weekly depending on demand. Applicants must have U.S.

work authorization without sponsorship. Role requires a valid CDL with passenger endorsement, a clean driving record, and successful completion of a post-offer drug test.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
• Must demonstrate ability to drive a bus (on-site driving test).
• Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under university fleet policy.

Responsibilities

• Operate passenger buses and shuttles on routes established by Transportation Office.
• Inspect buses and report malfunctions; maintain vehicle cleanliness.
• Fuel buses daily and inspect for exterior damage.
• Maintain contact with Transportation Office via radio/telephone; report delays and emergencies.
• Keep accurate mileage and passenger logs; complete trip sheets for each task.
• Assist disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed.
• Report route problems and suggest changes where appropriate.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
