Qualifications

Job description

Overview: VTG is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 1 located in Indian Head, MD.

What will you do?

1. Oversees or assists in the installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper).
2. Oversees or assists in building telecommunication closets while adhering to applicable standards and specifications.
3. Ensures grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes.
4. Ensures fire stopping procedures are accurately followed.
5. Oversees or assists in testing and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems.
6. Ensures transmission fundamentals of copper and fiber media are maintained.
7. Uses knowledge of and experience with Outside Plant operations to ensure rodding, roping, and fiber splicing and tipping are properly performed.
8. Troubleshoots entire communications system to determine if problems are related to hardware or cabling.
9. Tests and evaluates newly installed or existing hardware to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility.
10. Utilizes technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets establishment requirements.
11. Visits vendors to learn about available products, enhancements, or services.
12. Reviews timesheets and expense reports for accuracy, approves these documents, and ensures they are submitted in accordance with company procedures.
13. Compiles, reviews and/or submits other reports, such as site reports or project status reports, as required by management.

Do you have what it takes?

1. HS plus two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include an AS plus 1 year of related experience or BS in related field.
2. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
3. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
4. Knowledge of Database software; and MS Office Products.
5. BICSI Level 2 certification is preferred.
6. A valid driver's license is required.
7. DoD TS/SCI active clearance eligible required.
8. Must have their own PPE and Basic hand tools for cabling technicians.
9. Must be local or within 50 miles of location.
10. Must be US Citizen.
11. Must be able to support installation schedule and meet budgets provided by VTG Project Manager.
12. Must be capable of getting ladders, lifting boxes, materials, etc.
13. Experience pulling in copper/fiber, backbone/riser cabling.
14. Ability to terminate copper. Fiber term experience a plus.
15. Experience in installation of cable conveyances (cable tray, J hooks, ladder rack).
16. Experience supporting Telecom room buildout experience (racks/cabinets, patch panels, grounding, etc).
17. Testing experience using Fluke or equivalent test sets a plus.
18. CAC Badge (Preferred).
19. DoD Secret or higher clearance (Preferred).

This position is contingent upon contract award.
