Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a Teen Counselor at the Cecil Pruett Community Center YMCA to plan and lead teen programs, ensure safety, and deliver engaging activities under the direction of the Youth Development Director.

This grant-funded role focuses on building relationships with teens and parents, coordinating weekly clubs, and upholding YMCA safety policies while contributing to the organization’s mission and community impact.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• 2–4 years of experience with school-age youth or teens in group settings
• CPR/First Aid/BLS training completed or to be completed within 30 days of hire
• Youth and Teen Safety Training completed prior to first day of scheduled work
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Pre-employment background check, drug screen and MVR required

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily program tasks related to the position's scope and responsibility.
• Provide leadership and supervision to participants with guidance from Youth Development Director.
• Instruct lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Stay updated on current issues regarding programs.
• Promote, monitor and ensure all programs run smoothly with high service levels.
• Coordinate program components to meet Goizueta Grant compliance.
• Build authentic relationships with teen participants and parents/guardians; encourage volunteer involvement.
• Assist in YMCA operations as needed.
• Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork.
• Adhere to YMCA safety protocols for Youth and Teen safety.
• Assist with program checks ensuring participant/staff adherence to safety policies.
