Job summary

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a Teen Counselor to lead and supervise youth activities at the Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA in Georgia. You will implement lesson plans, ensure safety, and support youth development through engaging clubs and events.

You will work under the Youth Development Director, maintain program quality, and collaborate with families to encourage participation and volunteer involvement. This is a grant-funded role with focus on youth safety and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a High School Degree.
• 2-4 years prior experience working with school-age youth or teens in a group setting.
• Evidence of current successful completion of biennial CPR/First Aid/BLS training, or complete within 30 days of hire.
• Youth and Teen Safety Training prior to first day of scheduled work.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position’s scope and responsibility.
• Provide leadership and supervision to participants with guidance from the Youth Development Director.
• Instruct lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, with prepared lesson plans.
• Stay updated on current issues regarding programs.
• Promote, monitor, evaluate and ensure all programs run smoothly with high service quality.
• Coordinate program components to meet Goizueta Grant compliance.
• Build authentic relationships with teens and parents/guardians; encourage volunteer involvement.
• Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
• Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork.
