Job summary

The University of Toledo is seeking a Technology Support Administrator to provide IT support, planning, and design for workstations, peripherals, and network services. You will support faculty, staff, research computing, and students and help maintain systems and imaging across instructional labs.

Primary responsibilities include Active Directory, SCCM, Windows and Mac support, and training for staff and students.

Responsibilities

Job Description:

Working as a Technology Support Administrator, this position isresponsible for the information technology support, planning, anddesign of workstations, peripherals, and network services; and forproviding information technology support for faculty, staff,research computing, and/or students.

The following are primary functions of this job:

  • Assist in the support and maintenance of the Local Area Networkinfrastructure and network services.
  • Install, upgrade and support Microsoft Windows operating systemsand various industry-standard software packages. Maintain OSupgrades and security patches as required.
  • Active Directory administration.
  • Use of system management tools including SCCM.
  • Install, upgrade and support various hardware (i.e. servers,workstations, laptops, and peripherals).
  • Provide support for distributed file/storage servers and backupsystems.
  • Encrypt workstations for Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Research, test compare, and recommend hardware and softwaresolutions to enhance security and overall performance at theworkstation level.
  • Hire, recruit, and manage student support staff.
  • Provide support and training for instructional technology(Smartboards, Cisco Telepresence endpoints, projectors, LCD/LEDdisplays, etc.).
  • Design and maintain software images for faculty, staff, andinstructional lab computers.
  • Provide informal training on the use of software packages andweb-based applications.
  • Consult and advise on the purchase and acquisition of informationtechnology, and prepare quotes for hardware, software, andperipherals as required.
  • Provide reports as requested (inventory, work flow, etc.).
  • Provide onsite diagnostics, troubleshooting, feedback, and fieldtesting to network and server administration staff.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Two years of desktop support in Microsoft and Apple hardware andsoftware environments and mastery Microsoft Windows operatingsystems
  • Various industry standard software packages including MS Officesuite and Adobe
  • Wireless networks and client-side networking
  • Building and deploying images using tools such as MS SCCM
  • Windows Server administration
  • Anti-virus, anti-spyware, and other workstation security productsand solutions
  • Desktop encryption
  • Active Directory
  • Remote systems management tools
  • Peripherals including networked printers and print queues
  • Conferencing and instructional technology (projectors,presentation equipment, Cisco Telepresence, SmartBoards,etc.)
  • Driver’s license

  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

  • Supervision of junior or student employees
  • Unix based Operating Systems support
