Job Description:

The Electronic Technologist II supports electronic instrumentation needs for the College of Engineering instructional laboratories, including training and supervision of students using the electronic equipment. Specific duties include:

  • 1. Setting up, maintaining, and repairing electronic and computer instrumentation used in various instructional laboratories.
  • 2. Supervising, coordinating, and assisting with research, capstone design, and course-related activities in assigned laboratories.
  • 3. Providing support for courses in other assigned instructional laboratory spaces.
  • 4. Scheduling, performing, and/or approving all work-related to setup, maintenance, relocation, and operation of equipment in assigned instructional laboratory spaces.
  • 5. Providing training to teaching assistants and students in laboratory safety and overseeing their activities to ensure safe operation of laboratory equipment.
  • 6. Working with faculty and staff to order, track receipt, and deliver supplies, equipment, materials, and other items for assigned instructional laboratories.
  • 7. Providing support for recruiting events for prospective students, such as daily tours or workshops.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering. or equivalent; or. at least five years of experience working in a related industry.
  • Ability to design, setup, and repair electronic instrumentation and computer equipment.
  • Ability to read and implement circuit schematics.
  • Ability to design, program. and operate computer-controlled laboratory instrumentation.
Communication and other skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and other staff on instructional and research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas and communicate with non-technical visitors to the laboratories.
  • Ability to work with university and outside professionals on engineering design and construction projects.
