Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking an Application Delivery Technical Lead to guide software engineers, design complex enterprise solutions, and deliver robust code across projects. This role blends leadership with hands-on delivery, mentoring peers and aligning work with IT standards.

The position emphasizes strong programming in RPG/Java/SQL, API design, and collaboration with architects and business units to resolve technical challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 5 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience in database technologies.
• 5 years of experience on projects involving the implementation of solutions applying development life cycles (SDLC).
• 3 years of experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high level design for complex solutions.
• Experience in programming and software development including RPG, Java, SQL, Angular, APIs design and implementation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation on business requirements and functional specifications in logical program designs, code modules, application systems, and software solutions; facilitates the transition to high level design and supports the project lifecycle with input from leadership where needed.
• Reviews the development or modification of highly complex, enterprise level software solutions.
• 50/50 role with 50% design/mentorship/leadership and 50% hands-on delivery of code.
• Develops and validates highly complex software design prototypes, ensuring designs adhere to architecture standards.
• Leads technical direction for development and integration of enterprise applications across environments.
