Job summary

Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin seeks a Technical Writing Assistant to support the creation and maintenance of technical documents for high frequency active sonar systems deployed for the U.S. Navy.

The role focuses on accurate user guides, manuals, and related materials in HTML, PDF, and Word formats. You will collaborate with project leads, participate in peer editing, assist with IT documentation, and provide multimedia capture when needed.

Qualifications

• HS/GED
• Three years of clerical experience including some in technical writing.
• Accuracy in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and proofreading.
• Knowledge of tools such as Microsoft Office, MadCap Flare, or GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Assists with writing and maintenance of technical user guides, O&M manuals, and other documents in HTML, PDF, and Microsoft Word formats; maintains assigned GitLab issues.
• Participates in testing and verification of sonar components in office and field environments to develop and validate documentation.
• Participates in peer editing and publishing processes.
• Supports the documentation team IT working group and IT resources management and internal documentation.
• Provides photography and videography support to the documentation team as needed.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.
