Job summary

University of Texas at Austin seeks a Technical Writer/Editor I to write, maintain, and prepare technical documents for high frequency active sonar systems in the Advanced Technology Laboratory. You will create documents in HTML, PDF, and Word, manage GitLab issues, and support testing and verification in field and office settings.

Responsibilities include peer editing, IT documentation tasks, and multimedia capture support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• At least one year of professional or technical writing/editing experience.
• Strong organizational skills and focus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Able to work under pressure and accept supervision.
• Ability to work independently as well as with peers, clients, and management.
• Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
• US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
• Preferred qualifications include degrees in English/technical writing and experience with style guides and documentation tools.

Responsibilities

• Supports project leads by performing the duties of a primary or support writer on multiple projects.
• Writing and maintaining technical user guides, O&M manuals, and other documents in HTML, PDF, and Microsoft Word formats.
• Maintaining assigned GitLab issues.
• Participates in testing and verification of sonar components in office and field environments.
• Participates in peer editing and publishing processes.
• Supports IT resources management and internal documentation as part of the documentation team.
• Provides photography and videography support to the documentation team.
• Other related functions as assigned.
