Job summary

Avum Inc. is seeking a Technical Writer to create and manage software and systems documentation that is clear, accurate, and accessible to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

You will work closely with engineers and SMEs to translate complex information into organized documentation, drafting materials with minimal guidance and aligning with architectural discussions and decisions.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain U.S. government security clearance.
• Technical knowledge demonstrated through a background in engineering, computer science, information technology, or another highly technical field.
• Exceptional writing skills with the ability to organize complex information clearly, accurately, and concisely.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, operational staff, and management across backgrounds.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and deliver high-quality documentation on time.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineers to document software architecture, interfaces, data flows, and environment setup.
• Document coding standards, including architecture, naming conventions, data types, UI layout, commenting, versioning, testing, and security.
• Capture architectural tradeoffs and technical design decisions discussed in meetings.
• Conduct focused interviews with technical SMEs to gather information and develop accurate drafts.
• Develop and apply templates, frameworks, and best practices for consistency across teams.
• Translate requirements into Jira tickets, Confluence pages, and architectural guides.
• Update documentation throughout the project lifecycle to deliver complete materials at milestones.
