Ably is seeking a Technical Lead for Developer Experience to co‑own the DevEx vision and strategy. You will mentor a team of five engineers, own the dashboard, docs platform, and control plane, and drive a product‑first engineering culture focused on the developer journey and outcomes.

You’ll blend full‑stack expertise with a product mindset, overseeing rapid iteration, high‑velocity development, and AI‑assisted tooling while ensuring engineering quality and platform reliability.

Qualifications

• Natural empathy for developer customers and a passion for developer tools.
• Extensive experience leading teams at B2B SaaS or API‑first companies.
• Strong software engineering background with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript; backend in Ruby on Rails or Node.js.
• AI‑first mindset; using LLMs and AI tools to boost velocity without sacrificing quality.
• Experience in startup or growth‑stage environments with rapid iteration and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Obess over developer experience across Ably's dashboard, docs, and billing UI.
• Lead a five‑engineer team; own technical architecture and design decisions.
• Foster a product‑minded engineering culture with ownership of outcomes.
• Operate in a high‑velocity environment; co‑create features with PMs and customers.
• Champion AI adoption to accelerate velocity while preserving engineering integrity.
• Set and enforce high standards for code review, testing, and production readiness; coordinate with Infra.
• Mentor and grow the team, manage performance and hiring.
