Job summary

CLA, a national professional services firm, seeks a Controller with Technology Industry experience for the CAAS practice in Maryland. You will lead GAAP-based financial activities, build internal controls, and guide budgeting, procurement, and investments to support client needs.

You will interact with boards and investors, prepare financial statements, and mentor accounting staff. This in-office role offers growth opportunities within CLA’s dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA certification preferred but not required.
• 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent.
• Accounting back-office experience required.
• Technology industry experience highly preferred.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining accounting software knowledge (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct).
• Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Travel: frequent local travel; may require non-local/overnight travel for client visits.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and tech industry financials.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for budgeting, cash/credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct budgeting, procurements, or investment activities.
• Prepare financial information and statements; forecast budgets and reports requested by regulators.
• Evaluate needs for funds and investment of surpluses; provide recommendations.
• Monitor KPI and financial staff performance; implement improvements.
• Advise management on short-/long-term financial objectives and actions.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and stakeholders; may prep board presentations.
