Job summary

Utah State Tax Commission in Provo, Utah, is seeking a Tax Compliance Agent III for a hybrid, full-time role. You will answer taxpayer inquiries, support the division's mission, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Utah tax law while passing a FBI background check.

Full-Time

Salary – $22.60 - $33.96 Hourly Wage

The Utah State Tax Commission's Customer Services Division is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to fill its Tax Compliance Agent position. This person will play an integral role in Division's mission to answer taxpayer inquiries. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a FBI level background check.

This job may be filled at any of the advertised levels.

Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position

• Experience negotiating with customers
• Prior experience in collections, including taking legal action
• Basic understanding of Utah tax laws
• Skills in dealing with customers in an adverse environment
• Prior experience working with customers over the phone
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Be able to do your part in a team environment
• Research information to find answer to questions
• Data entry skills

Job Series

This position may be filled at any level within the job series.

• Tax Compliance Agent II $22.60-$33.96; or,
• Tax Compliance Agent III $25.22-$37.86.

Salary

Non-state employees are hired for this position only at entry level (Tax Compliance Agent II), $23.73 an hour. We are unable to negotiate hourly wage amounts. DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers for current state employees.

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:

• Preference may be given for experience with tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
