Job summary

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. in Metairie, LA is seeking a Recruiting and Onboarding Specialist to manage hiring and new-hire onboarding across the company.

Under the supervision of the HR Manager, the Specialist sources and screens candidates, coordinates interviews with hiring managers, completes pre-employment and employment eligibility requirements, and delivers new-hire orientation. This role emphasizes compliance, background checks, offer processing, and maintaining a strong candidate

Qualifications

• Two or more years of recruiting, human resources coordination, or onboarding experience, or an associate level degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of employment law and hiring compliance, including EEO, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and I-9/E-Verify requirements.
• Knowledge of construction and electrical trade terminology, job classifications, licensing, and apprenticeship structures.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, and experience with applicant tracking and HRIS/payroll systems.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing and posting: Create and post job requisitions; source candidates through ATS, job boards, job fairs, trade and technical schools, apprenticeship programs, and referrals.
• Applicant flow and screening: Review applications, conduct pre-interview phone screens, and keep applicants updated on status.
• Interview coordination: Schedule interviews and site visits, provide feedback to interviewers; hiring decisions remain with managers.
• Credentialing and background: Conduct reference and background checks, schedule drug testing, verify licenses and safety certifications.
• Offers and compliance: Prepare offer letters; complete Form I-9 and E-Verify; support reporting on compliance and apprenticeship programs.
• Onboarding and orientation: Plan orientation sessions; manage onboarding paperwork and system enrollment for payroll and benefits.
• Reporting: Prepare recruiting metrics and maintain candidate pipelines.
