Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Systems Engineer Lead to support NIH/NCI, overseeing systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, and platform operations for secure biomedical research environments. The role requires collaboration with government stakeholders and SMEs to architect, integrate, and operate enterprise systems across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 8+ years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the position.
• Experience supporting large Federal IT modernization or systems integration programs.
• Experience with Agile development environments and DevSecOps practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required Federal suitability or security requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / ADPII Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and operational leadership within the assigned functional area.
• Collaborate with Government stakeholders to define priorities, roadmaps, and delivery schedules.
• Lead systems engineering activities supporting enterprise applications, cloud platforms, research computing environments, and shared services across the NCI enterprise.
• Develop system architecture, integration strategies, infrastructure roadmaps, and modernization plans with Government stakeholders and SMEs.
• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
• Oversee systems integration across applications, data platforms, AI/ML, IAM, and partner systems using modern APIs and interoperability standards.
• Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives including virtualization, containers, Kubernetes, IaC, automation, and cloud-native services.
• Ensure systems meet performance, resilience, scalability, disaster recovery, and monitoring requirements.
• Guide cybersecurity practices, Zero Trust, IAM, encryption, and compliance with NIH/HHS/federal security requirements.
• Support deployment of HPC, cloud-based research environments, data storage platforms, and collaboration services.
• Develop and maintain architecture documents, interface control documents, procedures, baselines, and standards.
• Provide technical leadership during architecture reviews, readiness reviews, technology evaluations, and executive briefings.
• Support Agile planning, backlog refinement, sprint execution, and release management.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve delivery.
