The Microsoft Exchange/Messaging Engineer supports the Peace Corps in Washington, DC. As part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), this position focuses on providing expert-level development, operations, maintenance, engineering, architecture design, integration, and testing services for the Peace Corps Exchange and Messaging systems. The role requires in-depth knowledge of Microsoft-based infrastructure design, messaging and directory services best practices, and advanced systems administration, operations, and management skills.

The ideal candidate should have expert experience planning, documenting, installing, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting high-availability Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 environments. They should be able to configure Microsoft Enterprise Exchange to support Peace Corps users across multiple AD domains. This position is remote, based in the Washington, DC area.

Essential Requirements

• Maintain a Peace Corps Clearance for access to facilities and equipment.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Exchange Server, Intune, Azure).
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years supporting, designing, migrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft Exchange and enterprise services.
• 6-8 years of experience with server and network support systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 environments.
• Knowledge of Windows Server 2019 and 2022.
• Ability to troubleshoot server performance issues.
• Planning for future upgrades, including Exchange migrations.
• Strong experience with Exchange 2019, including mailbox failover and clustering.
• Proficiency with PowerShell for Active Directory and Exchange management.
• Knowledge of Active Directory architecture, mail routing, and protocols.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the health of Enterprise Messaging technologies.
• Manage Microsoft Exchange operational configurations.
• Manage Cisco IronPort systems.
• Monitor Messaging system health and implement proactive remediation.
• Identify and resolve latency and performance issues.
• Maintain system upgrade schedules.
• Document configurations, processes, and automation workflows.
• Ensure stability of Active Directory, Exchange, Skype, and related technologies.
• Manage Active Directory and Exchange backups and disaster recovery plans.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years supporting, designing, migrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft Exchange and related services. 6-8 years of experience with server and network support systems preferred.
