The Law School is searching for a Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian to join our team. Reporting to Director of the Library, the Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian is responsible for the management, configuration, and maintenance of the Library’s systems, hardware, software, web services, and applications. In collaboration with the Acquisitions Librarian, the Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian oversees the planning, evaluation, implementation and lifecycle of the Library’s electronic resources and authentication platform. The Librarian evaluates, recommends, configures, and provides support and training for new and emerging technologies supported by the Library.
Responsibilitiesinclude:
- Library Systems Administration: Oversees the administration, configuration, and maintenance of key library systems, including Koha (integrated library system), EBSCO Discovery Service, OpenAthens authentication, LibApps, and other tools. Investigates and implements digital accessibility standards and best practices for all library supported content. Responsible for managing backend settings, system integrations, and technical infrastructure to ensure reliable access, system interoperability, and alignment with institutional IT standards. Troubleshoots system-level issues and collaborates with vendors, IT staff, and library colleagues to support optimal system performance and user access.
- Library Technology Administration: Manages full range of library technology that supports public services, research, instruction and internal operations. Oversees access to digital tools, platforms, and systems that support library workflows and enhance user experience, including digital accessibility standards. Evaluates and implements new tools, ensures existing technologies are optimized and up to date, and resolves technical issues related to hardware, software, and digital platforms. Develops policies, workflows, and documentation to support the use and management of library technology. Provides training and support for staff, faculty, and students to ensure successful adoption and use of library-supported tools. Coordinates and tracks spending for budget lines related to the maintenance, supply and management of Library supported hardware and software.
- Technology Planning and Implementation: Investigates, implements, and supports new and emerging library technologies to improve service delivery, resource access, and user experience. Develops and documents technology policies, procedures, and workflows in coordination with library staff and campus IT.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collaborates with the Acquisitions Librarian and Assistant Librarian for Public Services as necessary to collect and analyze systems usage data to support resource evaluation, allocation, metadata improvements, and gap analysis. Provides regular reports to inform library planning and decision-making.
- Instructional Technology and Training: Assists with investigating, implementing, and supporting library-supported educational technologies used in legal research instruction and related services. Develops instructional documentation and training materials to support effective use of these tools. Creates and maintains internal policies and procedures related to the adoption and management of educational technology supported by the library.
- Collaboration and Vendor Relations: Collaborates with the Library Director, library colleagues, campus IT, and vendors to maintain the library’s systems and technology infrastructure. Coordinates communication and resolution of technical issues across platforms and service providers. Coordinates vendor training and educational resources for library staff.
- Digital Collections Management: Manages the library’s in-house digital collections and oversees the institutional repository, optimizing findability and maintaining long‑term access and preservation strategies. Supervises and trains library staff responsible for IR content uploads and digital exhibit creation.
- Reference Services: Provide general reference services both in‑person and virtually, including office hours and one‑on‑one research consultations. Assist patrons with a wide range of inquiries from basic bibliographic questions to complex legal research.
- Instruction & Programming:Participate in legal research and library instruction and programming.
- Professional Development: Participates in local and national professional associations. Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current in library technology, computing, librarianship, and higher education trends.
