Job summary

University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is seeking a Systems Analyst/Programmer to support academic and student-facing platforms, including learning management, CRM, and student advising systems. The role reports to the Associate Director of Enterprise Support.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in CS/IS and at least 1 year of relevant experience. Preference for experience with Canvas/Blackboard/Slate and BI tools; on-site work schedule is Monday–Friday 8am–5pm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS/IS or related field; up to 2 years substitutable for up to 2 years of education.
  • 1 year of experience supporting academic, administrative, or customer-facing tech platforms.
  • Experience with Canvas/Blackboard/Slate or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SIS systems (Ellucian Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft) including data imports/exports.
  • Higher education enrollment management or academic technology experience is a plus.

Systems Analyst/Programmer
Position Summary

The Systems Analyst/Programmer is responsible for providing support in maintaining academic and student-facing platforms, including learning management, CRM, and student advising systems. The Systems Analyst/Programmer reports to the Associate Director of Enterprise Support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Basic SQL knowledge or a demonstrated commitment to developing SQL proficiency within the first year of employment to support troubleshooting and data validation tasks.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to treat every support interaction as an opportunity to build trust, respond with patience, empathy, and clarity regardless of issue complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to helping others-this role interacts daily with students, faculty, and staff across the institution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively explain technical concepts in plain language to non-technical users.
  • Strong collaboration skills to be able to effectively work with others across departments and skill levels and contribute positively to team dynamics and shared goals.
  • Strong attention to detail in configuration, testing, and documentation; ability to effectively catch issues before they become problems.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple support requests while keeping users informed.
  • Ability to effectively take Initiative by reporting ready to learn, asking for guidance when needed, and looking for ways to contribute beyond the immediate task.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems quickly, maintaining top-tier support quality as platforms evolve or are added to the institutional portfolio.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Note that up to two (2) years of additional relevant experience may substitute for up to two(2) years of education.

Required Work Experience

One (1) year of experience working with or supporting technology platforms in an academic, administrative, or customer-facing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with two (2) or more of the following platforms: Canvas, Blackboard/Anthology, Slate, Element451, Salesforce Education Cloud, or EAB Navigate.
  • Familiarity with student information systems (SIS) such as Ellucian Banner, Colleague, or PeopleSoft, including experience with data imports/exports.
  • Experience in a higher education environment, particularly within enrollment management, academic technology, or student success functions.
  • Familiarity with ETL tools, data warehousing concepts, or business intelligence platforms (e.g., Argos, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Help desk or technical support experience is strongly welcomed.
  • Higher education experience.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with evenings and weekends as necessary to meet departmental goals.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20lbs of computer equipment.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on campus.
