Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Systems Administrator to join the team at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. The role entails managing Linux/Windows OS, AD, GPOs, and IT support tasks.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in IT, DoD 8140 IAT Level II cert, and strong communication skills. Will work on backups, security, and documentation in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 4+ years of IT or Systems Administration experience.
• DoD 8140 IAT Level II cert (e.g., Security+ CE or equivalent).
• Proficiency with Active Directory, GPO creation/troubleshooting, OS deployment tooling, and PowerShell automation.
• Strong understanding of system monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning and best practices.
• Understanding of basic networking (subnets, routing, VLANs).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical thinking; problem resolution; collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Respond to user requests via email, phone, and in-person visits.
• Grow IT expertise across hardware and software platforms.
• Configure and manage Linux/Windows OS; troubleshoot and tune performance.
• Assist with user account management and security administration.
• Support system backups and recovery procedures.
• Maintain system documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Take ownership of tasks and pursue new projects as they arise.
