Overview

Systems Administrator (EDOS-2026-24469): Bowhead seeks a Systems Administrator with Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience. The System Administrator will provide Information Technology (IT) customer support and technical assistance to developers and users. This position will require installation, operation, configuration, customization and usage of assigned products installed on tactical systems. Support also includes non-standard propriety support of various test equipment used for Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) of proof of concept and deployed solutions to the Navy Warfighter. Employee must be able to apply diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures while maintaining Navy Cybersecurity compliance. The Systems Administrator will provide support to the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to assist in developing enterprise environments to meet network compliance and organizational needs.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Able to manage a wide range of Linux based applications related to engineering and scientific tasking, including the adaptation of software and hardware applications to meet mission specific or compliance needs.
  • Must have knowledge of Cisco switches and routing protocols for the Network focused admins.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve advanced system level and networking issues.
  • Ability to write and maintain complex automation scripts.
  • Provide support to Weapon systems on standalone networks. Each system has its own network configuration including hardware.
  • Ability to assess, harden, and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities through various tools such as Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)/Nessus vulnerability scanner, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and Security Requirement Guides (SRGs) related to COTS operating systems, applications, and network infrastructure devices.
  • Ability to be independently responsible for planning and conducting a project of limited scope or a portion of a large project with diverse components in support of functional areas.
  • Ability to work independently as part of a diverse team, lead cybersecurity compliance related initiatives.
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of complex IT and cybersecurity compliance issues, including interpreting evolving policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Ensure and coordinate System Administration support activities to reach program objectives through the use of various system administrator tools.
  • Experience with implementing industry security best practices as well as DoD, DoN, and NAVSEA cybersecurity hardening techniques in computing environments.
  • Ability to promote the organization's use of knowledge management and information sharing through creation of detailed technical documentation for systems and processes.
  • Exercise customer service skills, attention to detail, and respond to support requests through the organization’s ticketing queue.
  • Mentor and develop members of the team to broaden skillsets and find enhancement opportunities. Participate and at times lead tiger teams with the internal IT team as well as the external IT community to address incoming IT challenges.
Qualifications
  • Three years of professional experience in effective provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure in a Linux environment.
  • High School Degree or equivalent required. Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience in installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, and planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.
  • In depth understanding of networking concepts, hardware, and software with ability to provide system administration to equipment segregated from the internet (TCP/IP, routing, firewall configurations, CISCO switches, etc.).
  • Understanding of enterprise environments with ability to provide administration through various tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Active Directory, PDQ, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of DoD, DoN, and NAVSEA IT system compliance requirements is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
Security Clearance Requirements

Must currently have a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
