Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking an Engineer III/Senior Engineer to serve as a System Protection and Control SME, leading the development of standards and templates for relays, protection schemes, and automation devices in distribution. You will collaborate with DPAC/PGO teams to deliver enterprise-wide protection guidelines and provide training input.

The role demands designing and validating protection templates, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and performing hands-on testing in relay labs,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program; 4+ years related experience.
• Master's degree may be substituted for the BS in engineering.
• PE license or state registration preferred for Senior Engineer consideration.

Responsibilities

• Develop standards, application guides, and position statements for system protection and automation.
• Create protection settings, logic, and control templates for relays and switchgear.
• Support standards for protective equipment and enterprise protection repositories.
• Act as SME for training materials and development of work-methods documentation.
• Hands-on testing in relay labs, field commissioning, and factory acceptance testing.
• Integrate sensing, control, communications, and protection into distribution systems.
• Collaborate with DPAC and PGO teams and other stakeholders to align standards.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to peer leadership within the team.
