Job summary

Duke Energy seeks Engineer III or Senior Engineer to serve as a System Protection and Control SME for developing protection standards and templates for relays, reclosers, and switchgear. You will support enterprise standards and artifacts as part of the DPAC Distribution System Protection team, collaborating across domains.

The role focuses on protection-related systems, templates, and application guides, with hands-on testing in relay labs, field commissioning, and factory acceptance tests.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience for Engineer III; 5–6+ years or PE for Senior Engineer.
  • Master's degree can substitute for BS.
  • Professional Engineer registration preferred for Senior Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop standards, guides, and statements for system protection and automation.
  • Create protection settings, logic, and control templates.
  • Support protective equipment standards and related artifacts.
  • Serve as SME for training and method documentation.
  • Hands-on relay lab testing, field commissioning, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Integrate sensing, control, communications, and protection into standard solutions.
  • Collaborate with DPAC ES, Equipment and Construction Standards, and Asset Management teams.
  • Contribute to an enterprise-wide protection and control settings repository.
  • Provide mentorship and peer leadership to engineers.
