Job summary

Duke Energy seeks an Engineer III/Senior Engineer to drive system protection and control standards for distribution assets. You will develop templates, settings, and guides for relays, controls, and automation devices as a SME within the PGO Distribution System Protection Team.

This role combines lab testing, field verification, and cross-team collaboration. You’ll mentor peers and collaborate with multiple stakeholders while delivering enterprise-wide protection strategies and templates.

Qualifications

ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
Minimum of 4 years related experience for Engineer III.
Professional Engineer license or registration preferred for Senior Engineer.
Master’s degree will be considered in lieu of BS.
Experience with system protection and automation is essential.

Responsibilities

Develop standards, guides, and position statements for protection and control applications.
Create protection settings, logic, and templates for relays and control devices.
Support standards for protective equipment and automation.
Act as SME for training materials and documentation.
Hands-on relay lab testing, field commissioning, and factory acceptance testing.
Integrate sensing, control, comms, and protection into distribution solutions.
Collaborate with PGO Distribution System Protection Team and related groups.
Contribute to an enterprise-wide protection and control settings repository.
Mentor peers and provide technical leadership.
