Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a System Protection, Control, Integration, and Automation SME to develop protection and control standards for distributed energy resources within the PGO DPAC Enterprise Standards team. The role supports safe DER integration, relay standards, and field deployments, with opportunities for mentorship and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• System protection and coordination experience with medium voltage systems (4kV-36kV class).
• Experience/knowledge of IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 2030 standards.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 protocol including programming and testing advanced protection and automation systems with peer to peer communications.
• Familiarity with SCADA/ DNP3 concepts.
• Experience testing protection and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection and control standards, settings, logic, and templates for DER integration.
• Create and maintain standards, guides, and application documents for DPAC ES.
• Support lab and field testing of relay, switchgear, and control components.
• Collaborate with DPAC ES team and stakeholders across departments.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to engineers.
