Job summary

Avera Health's Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls is seeking a dedicated communications specialist to manage the hospital switchboard, inbound and outbound calls, and alarms. The role supports directing the public and handling emergency codes while maintaining patient confidentiality and a professional demeanor.

You will work day/evening/weekend shifts, totaling 36 hours over two weeks, with a requirement for high school education or equivalent and reliable computer skills.

Qualifications

• High School or GED Equivalent or 1 year related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.

Responsibilities

• Handles large amounts of inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner.
• Identifies customer needs, clarifies information, researches, and provides solutions and/or alternatives.
• Follows communication scripts for various call scenarios, alarms, and emergency codes.
• Skillfully changes from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Actively participates in efforts to support customer satisfaction and maintain quality.
• Effectively communicates with patience and understanding. Remains positive and professional in all internal and external interactions.
• Communicates clearly, calmly, and professionally utilizing overhead paging system to communicate emergencies and general information.
• Informs appropriate resource of any trouble lines reported by personnel.
• Must maintain a working knowledge of hospital switchboard, phone system, and associated programs.
• Assists with departmental operations during evenings, weekends, or other designated times as needed.

The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience.

$18.00 - $23.25

Position Highlights

Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm, Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Saturday and Sunday 7:00am-3:30pm, Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm

36 hours 2 weeks

A Brief Overview
