Swim Instructor-In Training (Security)

Requirements and Opportunities:

1. Minimum age of 16
2. Experience swimming (training provided on teaching techniques and certification support)
3. Ability to work with diverse kids and families in a group setting
4. Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Monday-Thursday), Saturday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, with flexibility as needed

Job Summary:

This Swim Instructor (In Training) will shadow certified instructors while working towards YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within 90 days of hire. The role involves providing excellent customer service in a safe, positive environment aligned with YMCA policies.

Essential Functions:

• Assist and learn from certified instructors, understanding programming and emergency procedures
• Understand and communicate pool policies and safety procedures

Relationships:

Reports to the Aquatics Supervisor/Director and interacts regularly with staff, volunteers, and participants.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 16
• Complete YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within 90 days
• Patience and effective communication with all ages
• Ability to swim in shallow and deep water, tread water (Stage 4 level)
• Dedication to safety and YMCA values

Work Conditions:

• Must stay in the pool area at all times
• Support body weight in water; remain alert in warm environments
• Recognize and respond to hazards calmly and effectively
• Perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds
