Job Title: Lifeguard - In Training

The Coon Rapids Emma B. Howe YMCA is seeking Lifeguards - In Training. Enjoy paid training and certification, a flexible schedule, free Y membership, and more in this fun role at the Y! Applicants must be strong swimmers capable of passing a swim skills assessment.

The salary range for this position is $13.00-$13.57 per hour. Full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, disability insurance, generous paid time off, and free membership. Part-time benefits vary.

1. Job Summary:

This role involves shadowing certified lifeguards while working towards obtaining required certification within 90 days of hire. The incumbent will deliver excellent customer service in a safe, positive environment that prioritizes member safety and satisfaction, following YMCA policies and procedures.

2. Essential Functions:

• Assist and learn from certified lifeguards, programming, and emergency procedures.
• Understand and communicate policies for the pool, whirlpool, and water bodies.

3. Relationships:

The position reports to the Aquatics Director or Supervisor, who reports to Senior Aquatics Management. The incumbent interacts regularly with supervisors, staff, volunteers, and members.

4. Qualifications:

Required:

• Minimum age of 15.
• Certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Patience and effective communication skills with all ages.
• Ability to swim in shallow and deep water, including treading water (Stage 5 level) or equivalent physical ability.
• Commitment to member safety and YMCA's mission and philosophy.

5. Work Conditions:

• Must stay in the pool area at all times.
• Support body weight in water.
• Remain alert in warm environments (80°F or higher).
• Recognize and address hazards calmly and effectively.
• Communicate verbally, projecting voice across distances.
• Perform physical tasks including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
