Swim Instructor (Security)

The starting salary for this position is $16.00 per hour. Full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, life, disability insurance, generous paid time off, and free membership. Part-time benefits vary.

1. Job Summary:

The Swim Instructor provides swimming instruction to individuals of all ages, adhering to the YMCA of the USA Aquatics and Swim Lessons guidelines. The role emphasizes excellent customer service in a safe, positive environment that promotes safety and satisfaction, consistent with YMCA policies.

2. Essential Functions:

1. Provide swimming lessons across various age groups and skill levels.
2. Maintain constant supervision, assist swimmers as needed, and ensure a positive learning experience.
3. Understand and communicate pool and whirlpool policies and procedures.
4. Know the YMCA Swim Lessons program, including skill levels and assessments, to appropriately evaluate and place students.

3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Aquatics Supervisor or Director, who reports to the Senior Director of Aquatics. The incumbent interacts regularly with supervisors, staff, volunteers, and participants.

4. Qualifications:

• Required: Minimum age of 16, YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification, patience, effective communication skills, ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and a commitment to safety and the YMCA mission.
• Preferred: YMCA Swim Instructor certification.

5. Work Conditions:

• Must remain in the pool area at all times.
• Ability to support body weight in water and remain alert in warm environments (80°F+).
• Ability to recognize and respond to hazards calmly and effectively.
• Good verbal communication skills, physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 50 pounds.
