Swim Instructor-In Training (Security)

The Swim Instructor role is vital at the YMCA, teaching youth and adults essential swim skills to promote safety and enjoyment in a region with over 10,000 lakes. Requirements and Opportunities:

1. Minimum age of 16
2. Swimming experience; training provided for teaching techniques and certification
3. Ability to work with diverse children and families in a group setting
4. Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Monday-Thursday), Saturday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, with flexibility as needed

Job Summary:

This in-training role involves shadowing certified instructors while working towards YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within 90 days of hire. Provide excellent customer service in a safe, positive environment that promotes safety and satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist and learn from certified instructors, programming, and emergency procedures
2. Understand and communicate pool policies and safety procedures

Relationships:

Reports to the Aquatics Supervisor/Director and interacts with staff, volunteers, and participants.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 16; certification required within 90 days
• Patience and effective communication skills with all ages
• Ability to swim in shallow and deep water, tread water (Stage 4 skill)
• Commitment to safety and YMCA values

Work Conditions:

• Constant presence in the pool area
• Ability to support body weight in water and remain alert in warm environments
• Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds
